Badgers outlast Hoosiers for second straight win

Technical falls from Cole Martin and Evan Wick helped lift the No. 23 Wisconsin wrestling team to a 24-19 win over Indiana in a Big Ten dual Friday night at the UW Field House.

The visiting Hoosiers (6-6, 0-5 Big Ten) struck first as Elijah Oliver pinned Ethan Rotondo in the first period of their bout at 125 pounds.

Jens Lantz (133) got the Badgers (6-2, 3-2) on the board in the ensuing match with a 3-0 decision over Garrett Pepple.

Indiana scored another fall at 141 pounds courtesy of N0. 20 Cole Weaver to grab a 12-3 lead three matches in.

From there, UW rattled off a streak of three consecutive victories to take its first lead of the night.

Martin got Bucky back on track with a technical fall at 149, he topped Alejandro Raya 16-0 in 5:49.

No. 20 Andrew Crone knotted the dual at 12 apiece with a 14-2 decision over Austin Holmes.

Fifth-ranked Evan Wick followed suit with a 23-8 tech fall against Austin Holmes at 165 pounds. This gave the Badgers a 17-12 edge, a lead they would not relinquish.

No. 19 Devin Skatzka stopped the bleeding for Indiana as he defeated Ryan Christensen by major decision at 174.

Ninth-ranked Ricky Robertson took care of business for Wisconsin at 184 pounds, blanking Norman Conley 8-0.

Hunter Ritter sealed the match for UW, topping Jake Kleimola 6-5 via riding time advantage.

The Badgers host No. 16 Nebraska (6-3, 4-1)  Feb. 9. The match begins at 7 p.m.
