Redshirt Report: Otto wins title at Jim Koch Open

Freshman Josh Otto went a perfect 4-0 on the day to claim the championship at 165 pounds Saturday at the Jim Koch Open hosted by UW-Parkside.

The event featured athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III.

Otto’s run started with a 17-4 major decision over Alfred Daniel (UW-Eau Claire).

Back-to-back decisions placed Otto in the finals where he topped Cory Peterson (McKendree University) 6-2.

The title is the second of the year for Otto who also took first at the Pointer Open in Stevens Point last month.

UW junior Ethan Rotondo placed third at 125 pounds. His lone loss came at the hands of Tyler Kreith (Maryville University) in the semifinals. 3-2 was the final of that bout.

After winning his consolation semi, Rotondo won the third-place match by forfeit.

Sophomore Andrew Salemme went 4-2 on the day and placed fifth at heavyweight. He won the fifth-place match by medical forfeit.

Kyle Burwick (133) and Nicholas Termini (149) also competed at Saturday’s event but did not place.

Burwick dropped his first two matches of the day, but ultimately medically forfeited out of the tournament.

After dropping his first and only match on the championship side of the bracket, Termini ended the day with a record of 3-2.
