Redshirt Report: Barnett wins title at Grand View Open

Freshman Eric Barnett posted a perfect 4-0 record en route to an individual championship at 125 pounds at the Grand View Open Saturday in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Barnett worked his way to the finals with three bonus-point victories.

In the finals, he edged Kyle Biscoglia of Northern Iowa 5-4.

In total, Barnett outscored his opponents 33-6 on his way to claiming top honors in the 125-pound open division.

True freshman Kyle Burwick placed second at 133 pounds. He went 3-0 on the day before falling to Drew Bennett (Northern Iowa) in the championship match by a count of 3-1 in sudden victory.

Freshmen Nicholas Termini (141), Dan Stilling (149), Josh Otto (165) and Pete Christensen (197) also competed, but did not place.

Termini and Christensen each went 2-2, while Stilling and Otto each posted 1-2 records.

Scharenbrock leads reserves

Wisconsin brought six reserve wrestlers to Saturday’s event. They were paced by Drew Scharenbrock, who finished runner-up at 157 pounds.

Scharenbrock strung together four consecutive victories before being pinned by Brandon Murray (Loras) 5:31 into their championship tilt.

Devin Bahr (157) and Andrew Salemme (285) each placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

Ethan Rotondo finished fifth at 125.

Dominic Dentino (133) and Seth Vosters (174) also competed for the Badgers but did not place.

Vosters posted a 3-2 mark, while Dentino was 1-2.

Despite having more than one wrestler competing at three different weight classes, no UW teammates crossed paths during Saturday’s action.
